Every hopeful couple who embarks on an IVF journey has one dream – to hold a child of their own in their arms. We’re proud of our success rates, and are committed to make your dreams come true.
Getting to know IVF success rates
When it comes to choosing the right fertility clinic, one of the most important factors to take into account is the centre’s IVF success rates.
Since the introduction of IVF in the 1970s and in comparison to success rates of today, there has been a tremendous improvement in the success rates of IVF treatments. At Sunway Fertility Centre, we believe that consistent investment in advanced medical technologies and highly skilled individualised care is vital in every IVF journey for couples who walk through our doors. Our team of fertility experts are committed to help you achieve your dreams of parenthood.
For couples considering IVF treatment, it’s important to take note of several factors that could influence your treatment’s success. This includes:
- Cause of infertility
- Choice of fertility clinic
- Egg, sperm and/or embryo quality
- Lifestyle habits such as smoking and obesity
- Maternal age
Pregnancy success rates by age
Sunway Fertility Centre has documented our IVF treatment success rates by clinical pregnancy and live birth based on age.
Clinical pregnancy is defined as a pregnancy confirmed with any one of the following criteria:
- An ultrasound to identify the presence of a gestational sac
- High pregnancy hormone levels, also known as hCG
Sunway Fertility Centre’s 2019 clinical pregnancy rates by age group are documented as follows:
Age Below 35
Age Between 35 – 49
Age Above 40
Live birth refers to the birth of a live child, irrespective of the pregnancy duration Sunway Fertility Centre’s 2019 live birth rate of 36% is at par with the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology’s national IVF record which is 35.9% for the similar age group

Your next step
There are several important factors that contribute to the success rate of your IVF treatment. Our fertility specialists are committed to help you weigh these factors and provide individualised care for every hopeful couple.
Sunway Fertility Centre provides our patients with the full range of fertility treatment and services to optimise their IVF success rates and improve patient outcomes. Our centre provides exclusive technology based services, including:
- Intracytoplasmic Morphologically Selected Sperm Injection (IMSI)
- Time-Lapse Technology
- Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT) – Next Generation Sequencing
- Endometrial Receptivity Analysis
Once the oocytes have been injected with the best sperm through IMSI, they will be cultured and meticulously monitored for growth and development in the time-lapse monitoring incubator for 3-5 days. The resulting embryos will then be biopsied for genetic testing which utilises the next generation sequencing technology. These technologies enable our team of highly skilled embryologists to select the best embryo for transfer to the woman’s uterus. The Endometrial Receptivity Analysis helps to determine the most ideal day to conduct an embryo transfer during the IVF cycle.
With the utilisation of these differentiated technologies, Sunway Fertility Centre is able to achieve the highest success rates for our patients.
In contrast to most centres that offer Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI), Sunway Fertility Centre offers patients IMSI, which involves injecting sperm into each egg with the aid of high magnification. The high magnification used allows the embryologist to identify tiny defects in the sperm head that would not be visible with standard ICSI. With this technology, only normal looking sperm are injected into the oocytes, increasing the fertilisation rate. Other added benefits of IMSI are a reduced likelihood of miscarriages through better sperm selection.
IMSI is highly recommended for couples who have experienced repeated failed cycles or for couples who have a component of male infertility.
The time-lapse technology available in Sunway Fertility Centre enables digital images and videos of embryos to be captured while it is developing in the incubator. This allows our embryologist to have a better understanding of how well your embryo is developing.
Time-lapse technology is a non-invasive embryo selection technique in which a camera continuously records the embryo development in the incubator. With traditional technology, the embryo would be removed from an incubator to be accessed. However, with time-lapse technology, our fertility team will be able to access the embryo while it remains in the incubator. This gives the embryologists unlimited possibilities to evaluate and select the best embryo(s) for transfer without stressing any of the embryos. Time-lapse technology also gives a more detailed embryo development as compared to traditional technology and this also allows our team to identify the embryos at risk of chromosomal abnormalities.
Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT) screens for genetic conditions that could affect the health of the embryo. With PGT, our embryologist will be able to identify a healthy embryo to be implanted in the mother’s womb thus reducing the risk of multiple pregnancies.
There are two forms of PGT which are PGT-A and PGT-M. More information about these tests can be found here
- Next Generation Sequencing
Available at Sunway Fertility Centre, next generation sequencing (NGS) is the latest, most advanced PGT technology which allows for comprehensive chromosome testing of embryos. NGS involves a more detailed screening for defects on the chromosome level. The results gathered from a NGS test are more comprehensive compared to other genetic tests. In addition to a faster results turnaround time, NGS results have reduced errors compared to its predecessors, which is very crucial for increased pregnancy success rates.
During an IVF journey, one of the most crucial milestones is a successful transfer of the embryo to the womb and the success of the transfer depends very much on the endometrial receptivity. The Endometrial Receptivity Analysis (ERA) is a genetic test that will help to determine the most ideal day to conduct an embryo transfer during your IVF cycle.
The ERA procedure involves an endometrial biopsy whereby a sample is taken and sent to the laboratory to be analysed. After analysis, we will be able to determine the optimal time for an embryo transfer whereby you will receive three possible results:
- This indicates that your endometrium is not ready for an embryo transfer.
